I live out on what used to be a productive farm. It was my grandparents’ farm where they planted and cultivated and harvested wonderful vegetables and fruits. My grandmother was an expert gardener. She would take very fragile vegetable plants and gently place them in well cultivated soil, making sure that the root was planted deeply enough to draw in much needed nutrients. The roots also had to be deep enough to stabilize the tiny plant in heavy rains or in strong gusty thunderstorm winds. Once these vegetable plants were firmly rooted, they grew to produce vegetables served from my grandmother’s table that were tasty in a way that only she could make them.
So what does growing vegetables have to do with camp? Camp is called by Christ to take fragile children and youth and to plant them in Christ and to grow them into His likeness and to establish them to withstand life’s inevitable storms and pressures to conform.
The Lord has impressed upon me two Scripture passages as I look toward the 2015 year of ministry at camp: “Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith…” Colossians 2:6-7
“”so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. and that you being rooted and grounded in love…” Ephesians 3:17
Our call at camp is to”firmly root,” “build up,” “establish, and “ground” so that these young people stay the course, contend for the faith and bear immense fruit for the eternal glory of Jesus. Fulfilling that call does not come easily and really can only be fulfilled as we stand together in believing prayer. Would you join us as prayer partners for these ministries listed below – that the young people at these gatherings will be grounded and built up in their faith?
During this next month please pray for Soul Building Saturday Feb.28 in Sumter as Joel Chandler teaches and Christina and Caroline share their missions trip to Moldova
